Barents Sea Youth Conference 2011
Powering up the Arctic
We are approaching Barents Sea Youth Conference 2011, where we will gather 80 students from the Barents Region. So far there will be 30 students from Russia, 13 students from Finland, 14 students from Sweden and 13 students from Norway. The conference will be held at Finnmark University College. The main topics for the conference will be
• Energy resources in the Arctic, renewable and oil/gas.
• Use locally or export. What type of industry can we develop based on the energy recourses in the Barents region?
• Knowhow and education. What will we need in the future?
The participants will work with these problems at home before they come to Hammerfest, and the result from this "Home Work" will be presented on Saturday. The students will then be divided into group's independent on nationality and university. We will then discuss the problems future, and the result from the workshop will be presented on Sunday. All the presentations will also be available in a report and on our web-pages.
The conference will also include invited speaker from oil/gas industry and renewable energy and a visit to Melkøya (Statoil).
