EnergiCampus Nord (ECN) is all set to introduce a standard Bachelor of Engineering study programme in Hammerfest this coming autumn.
From this autumn, Director Kåre Tormod Nilsen at EnergiCampus Nord is launching standard Bachelor of Engineering studies in Hammerfest.
Engineers first in Hammerfest
“This is an important milestone for ECN”, says Director Kåre Tormod Nilsen to the newspaper Finnmark Dagblad. Most recently by virtue of the government statement «New building blocks in the north», ECN has now achieved a permanent role in the efforts to develop the northern areas. This innovative educational initiative has previously offered a preliminary engineering course and has already implemented special extended study courses in gas technology in collaboration with NTNU, involving students from the University of Tromsø, among others.Research in the pipeline Two technical colleges and three universities are behind the collaborative effort now taking place at ECN in Hammerfest. ECN has already started the preparatory work for several research projects in collaboration with one or several of its collaborative institutions. “We believe that one or more of these will succeed in competing for research funds granted by the Research Council of Norway”, says Nilsen.
After ECN established its own administration team in June last year, interest for both standard educational courses in energy and petroleum technology, together with supplementary and further educational programmes in the same subjects, has been well documented. “The advantage of our organisational model is that we can always adapt our programmes to external demand, needs and requirements not only from the students, but also from the industry itself, with whom we have established an excellent collaborative relationship”, says Nilsen.
First in line Narvik University College has assumed special responsibility for the Bachelor programme in Engineering, both in terms of admissions and tuition. “It’s worth noting that the programme has been designed to encourage participation from students from the region. In practice this means that the universal 15 April application deadline for colleges and universities is not set in stone for our potential students. The final deadline has not yet been decided, but will be announced later”, says Director Kåre Tormod Nilsen at ECN.
